Frequently asked questions
Is 76 PDF really free?
Yes. Every tool is free, there is no sign up and nothing is added to your files. The only limit is the memory of your own device.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Files are opened and processed inside your browser, then saved back to your device. We do not run a server that can receive your documents. You can verify this in your browser's network tab, or install the app and use it offline.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After your first visit you can install 76 PDF as an app, or just reload the page without internet. All tools are stored on your device.
Can I open a password protected PDF?
Yes. When a file asks for a password, enter it and the tools continue. The password stays in your browser.
Can I change the existing text in a PDF?
Yes, with the Edit text tool, which covers the old line and writes new text on top. By default, edited pages are rebuilt as images so the old text is removed for good, but they are no longer searchable. You can turn that off.
Which browsers work?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop, and Chrome or Safari on phones and tablets.
What is 76 PDF built with?
Open source libraries: PDF.js from Mozilla for reading pages, pdf-lib for creating and changing PDFs, qpdf for encryption, JSZip for ZIP downloads, SortableJS for drag and drop, and Lucide for icons.
